The Mount Gilead swim team hosted a meet on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the Marion Y against Marion Harding and Upper Sandusky.

The meet was scored as a double dual meet, which makes reporting the outcome more challenging. The combined score had Mt Gilead finishing third, but a breakdown of the meet had the MG boys finish ahead of Harding and just 10 points behind Upper Sandusky.

Despite having two veteran swimmers put on quarantine just hours before the meet, the team did well and had some great races. The boys 200 medley relay made up of Michael Snopik, Tyler Knight, Joel Conrad and Cole Hershner came in first, as did Michael, Joel, Tyler and Mason Kidwell in the 200 free relay. The girls 200 medley relay of Taylor Robinson, Michaela McGill, Adriana Tinch and Kamry Grandstaff came in second.

In the individual events, Joel Conrad won the 200 free and the 100 fly, setting new school records in both. Interestingly, the previous record holder in the 100 fly was Joel’s brother Casey. Michael Snopik won the 100 free and was second in the 50 free. Mason Kidwell and Tyler Knight went 1-2 in the 200 IM with Mason earning a PR; Taylor Robinson won the 200 free; Adriana Tinch won the 100 free and 100 back; Michaela McGill won the 100 breast with a PR; and Tyler Knight, Luke Frazier and Cole Hershner went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast. Hayden McClelland was second in the 100 back and also earned a PR.

The Indians will be back in action on Jan. 6 at the Marion Y and hope to train well over Christmas break. Since spectators are not allowed into the natatorium at Marion, the meet will be livestreamed on Facebook.
