Both Highland soccer teams lost their season-openers on Friday, dropping identical 4-0 decisions to visiting Licking Heights.

The boys’ team, competing against an upperclassmen-dominated squad, gave up three goals in the first half and were unable to recover from that deficit.

Head coach John Sachleben cited sophomore sweeper Jack Chaffee and freshman outside back Aiden Ward for having strong games, with both playing the entire 80 minutes.

The girls’ team fell into an early hole and trailed 2-0 going into the half.

While the Scots had opportunities to score in the first half, they were unable to convert and the Hornets would be able to add to their lead in the second half to claim the win.
