Highland’s defense shut down Danville on Friday, as the Scots improved to 3-1, 1-0 in league play with a 26-0 victory at home.

After neither team could score in the first quarter, Highland took a 6-0 lead into the half, as Brody Matthews scored on a five-yard run. The Scots added a 29-yard scoring pass from Reese Weissenfluh to Javier Vasquez in the third quarter and Matthews added a two-point run to make the score 14-0 with 12 minutes to play.

Highland put the game away in the fourth quarter, getting a 55-yard scoring run by Brock Veley and a six-yard dash by Matthews to add 12 more points to their total.

Matthews finished with 174 yards, while Veley added 121, as the Scot rushing attack tallied 335 of the team’s 381 yards. Weissenfluh added 46 yards through the air, with Isaiah Stoneburner catching two passes. The team also got four interceptions, with Clay Matthews recording two.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington pulled away in the second half to claim a 27-6 win over Centerburg at home in the first league game for both teams.

The Pirates struck first, getting a five-yard run by Daniel Kill and a point-after kick from Branden Steckel to take an early 7-0 lead. The Trojans got within a 7-6 margin by the half, but would not be able to add any more offense.

In the third quarter, Kill ran for a 75-yard score and Steckel added the extra point. Then, Cardington got a 45-yard run by Mason Goers in the fourth quarter. Goers would then pass for a late touchdown, hitting Garrett Wagner for a 22-yard score, as the Pirates won by 21 in the contest.

Goers finished with 111 rushing yards, while Kill both passed and ran for 82 yards. Cade Ruehrmund had two receptions for 97 yards.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead could not get untracked on Friday when they took on East Knox in a home game.

The Bulldogs scored 12 points in the first quarter and 22 in the second on their way to claiming a 41-0 win against the Indians.

Seth Young completed five passes for 34 yards, with Mason Mollohan catching a pair for 25. On the ground, Hunter Trimmer ran for 41 yards.
