On one of the few sunny days this summer, the Mount Gilead swim team traveled to Upper Sandusky to compete.

“Upper is the team most like us in our league. They have an outdoor pool, and most of their swimmers don’t compete year round. They have about 20 more swimmers on their roster and they can fill most events. It was a close meet. We won most events, but then they came back and would take second and third. What hurt us most is that we don’t have many 13-14 year old swimmers, so their wins in that age group clinched it,” reported coach Dina Snow.

The final score was 373-365, a difference of only 8 points.

“It was long meet, so as the night went on, we were getting nervous that we wouldn’t finish before it got dark!” said Snow. “The kids were also getting lots of mosquito bites, which doesn’t happen when we compete indoors!”

First place relay finishes were earned by: the 8-under boys medley and free relays (Jaxon Tinch, Brice Haughn, Carson Mowery and Hawke Littell); the 9-10 girls medley and free relays: (Keana Littell, Kyndra Irwin, Grace Mowery and Madison Hack); the 9-10 boys medley and free relays (Owen Philpot, Wesley Bush, Joel Conrad and Bradley West); the 11-12 girls medley relay (Kylie Irwin, Reagan Swihart, Adrianna Tinch and Taylor Robinson); the 11-12 boys medley and free relays (Eric Mowery, Tyler Knight, Isaiah Fisher and Mason Kidwell); the 13-14 boys medley relay (Xander Koller, Gavin Robinson, Sammie West and William West); the 15-18 girls medley and free relays (Cassidy Hack, Courtney West, Erin Zmuda and Shelby West); the 15-18 boys medley and free relays (Logan Conrad, Evan Zmuda, Casey Conrad and Daniel Freeman).

Second place relays were the 9-10 girls B free relay (Kyndra Irwin, Kamry Grandstaff, Shelba Fisher and Ryan Brinkman) and the 13-14 boys free relay (Koller, Robinson, S. West and W. West).
