Northmor’s girls bowling team finished eighth in the state during action in the Division III state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Eight teams qualified for the finale during preliminary action Friday morning. Northmor was the last squad in, and maintained that spot during the finals competition.

Individual placers and scores for Northmor in the prelims were 11. Alexis Yarnell- 218, 216, 167=601; 27. Shelbey Lilly- 186, 166, 176=528; 37. Caitlin Adkins- 161, 171, 189=521; 72. Chloe Meier- 147, 181, 139=467; 96. Sara Drumm-178. Field averages for the opening round were: 171.93, 165.00, 167.17=168.03 per game.

With her 11th place finish, Yarnell made the All-Ohio Honorable Mention team.

The Lady Knights used scores of 890, 891 and 772 to add up to 2,553 heading into the Baker series. In that three-game series, Northmor bowled a 155, 189 and a 104 to add to their 2,553. With their total of 3,001, the Golden Knights earned the eighth and final spot in the championship round over conference rival Elgin (2,970) by just 31 pins.

The top eight teams in the field would qualify for the bracket finals and a chance at the state championship crown. Springfield Northwestern took first place in the opening round with a total score of 3,510. Northmor was the last team in with its 3,001 total. Others qualifying for the finals were 2. Coldwater-3,343; 3. Norton-3,094; 4. Willard-3,082; 5. Minerva-3,077; 6. Mechanicsburg-3,012 and 7. Jonathan Alder-3,011.

“The girls really bowled amazing today. Unbelievable! The thing that did it was the big counts on spares. We talked about this aspect of our game through the entire tournament season,” states coach Russ Montgomery.

In the finals, Northmor took on Springfield Northwestern in the first round. It would be Baker game versus Baker game in a best-of-five series. Game one would go to the Lady Warriors of Northwestern, 154-147. Northmor would bounce back to win game two 166-155. However, that’s where the luck would run out as Northwestern took games three and four, 188-161 and 180-155, respectively, and ending the Lady Golden Knights state championship hopes.

Northwestern finished third overall in the state, with the Knights eighth.

Winning the state title was Coldwater, defeating Willard 3-0 in the championship match.
