Cardington kept on pace to finish the year with a share of the Blue Division title thanks to a 56-47 win at Elgin on Thursday. If Cardington can win at home against Highland on Saturday, they will tie Northmor at 11-3 in league play.

In topping Elgin, the Pirates jumped out to a fast start and led 21-9 after the opening period. While Elgin tried to cut into that advantage, Cardington led 30-19 at the half and 42-34 after three quarters. They would then outscore their hosts 14-13 over the final eight minutes to finish with the win.

Garrett Wagner hit five three-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead Cardington. Devin Pearl added 13 and moved over the 1000-point mark in the game, finishing it with 1001. Also, Luke McCarrell connected three times from long range in scoring 11 and Derek Goodman added nine.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead finished their league season with a 65-49 home win over Fredericktown on Thursday.

The Indians jumped out to a 24-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in claiming the win. They led 39-14 at the half and 53-37 after three periods on their way to picking up the decision.

Austin Vanderkooi led the team with 22 points, while Tyler Bland added 18. Zack Hosack connected four times from long range and tallied 16.
