The Indian swimmers competed at the Viking Classic invitational Saturday at New Albany. This was a long meet with 19 teams participating and several swimmers that went to the state meet last year.

Mount Gilead team did very well against that field: the boys came in seventh of 17 teams and the girls 13-of-18, with a combined finish of 9th out of 19. Every swimmer scored for the team.

“I couldn’t be prouder—it is very hard to keep your energy up at a long meet like that, especially if you feel a little outgunned. I look forward to how the team will do as we wrap up our season and get rested and ready to go!” said coach Dina Snow.

Finishing in the top 6 in their events were Casey Conrad, 200 free and 100 fly; Evan Zmuda, 200 IM and 100 breast, and Erin Zmuda, 50 free. The boys 200 medley relay (L. Conrad, E. Zmuda, C. Conrad and Kurtis Brown) was 5th, and the same foursome came in 3rd in the 400 free relay — a very exciting race that brought them within a half-second of the school record.

Colton Long, Logan Conrad, Zack Clark, Cassandra Snopik and Gavin Robinson also scored points in both individual and relay events. Logan, Zack, Cassandra, Gavin and Casey Conrad all achieved personal bests at this meet.

Next up: a sprint invitational at Mansfield Madison on Saturday. The team will also host a meet on January 25 at the Marion Y, followed by the MOAC championships on Jan. 28, also at Marion.
