Despite the rainy summer, the Mount Gilead Swim Team continued to represent the community well as group traveled to Shelby for a dual meet.

“Over the years, Shelby was a powerhouse. It has been hard to watch their program diminish and realize that we are now much more dominant with our large numbers. For this reason, most Mount Gilead swimmers scored in the top two in their events at our June 24 meet. It does make reporting the results a little cumbersome when our entire roster is listed!” said coach Dina Snow.

Swimmers placing in the top two in their individual events and relays were Ryann Brinkman; Wesley Bush, Casey, Logan and Joel Conrad; Rachel Davis; Daniel Freeman; Kamry Grandstaff; Cassidy and Madison Hack; Brice Haughn; Kylie and Kyndra Irwin; Tyler Knight; Mason Kidwell; Xander Koller; Hawke and Keana Littell; Colton Long; Meaghan and Michaela McGill; Olivia Morrison; Eric and Grace Mowery; Owen Philpot; Ellie and Josh Rhea; Gavin and Taylor Robinson; Cassandra and Michael Snopik; Morgan Staley; Reagan Swihart; Adriana and Jaxon Tinch; Courtney, Sammie, Shelby and William West; and Erin and Evan Zmuda.

The team also continued its long tradition of winning the Aloha Team Spirit Award at the Annual Colonel Crawford Hawaiian invitational on June 27. With a combination of great dancing, great costumes and great cheering, the team added a lot of energy to the meet.

“This year marked the first time there was a tie. The Bucyrus team did a great job getting into the theme. We had a tie-breaker and we still went home with the trophy.” said Snow. Bucyrus did end up pulling ahead of MG on the final score, but MG did take home the runner-up trophy as well over Shelby, Findlay and Upper Sandusky.

Gold medal winners were Isaiah Fisher, 100 IM and 25 breast; Evan Zmuda, 200 IM; Jaxon Tinch, 25 free; Joel Conrad, 25 fly and 50 free; Erin Zmuda, 100 fly and 100 breast; Casey Conrad, 100 fly; and Hawke Littell, 50 free;
