The Northmor Youth Safety Council, Government and Jobs for Ohio Graduates students were welcomed to the state capitol on May 25th as a recipient of 2013-2014 school transportation grant.
Northmor received a grant to help defray the cost of visiting the Ohio State Capitol. The grant was made available through a generous gift from Honda of America Mfg. Inc. and the Wal-Mart Foundation. The trip to Columbus allowed our students to learn about the historic Ohio Statehouse and the workings of state government.
The students were greeted by District State Representative Jeff McClain, wearing his Northmor Youth Safety Council t-shirt and Senator David Burke. The students had a great discussion with both Representative McClain and Senator Burke before their sessions in the afternoon. 2014-2015 JOG president, Racheal Morrison presented Representative McClain with a JOG t-shirt.
The students took a tour of the capitol, and went through the State Museum of History. Afterwards students, Mr. Gwirtz - Government Teacher, and Mrs. Donohue - JOG Specialist and Youth Safety Council Advisor, took a self tour looking for committee meetings to sit in on. It was a successful day of watching all that went on at the state capitol.
