Thanks to a concerted effort by many individuals and groups, the seventh Bowl for the Cure held at Morrow Lanes, Cardington, generated a total of $2,848 for the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Research.

The event is hosted by Larry and Debbie Popp, owners of the Morrow Lanes and is held in memory of Debbie’s niece, Kendra Benson, who passed away in 2006 following a battle with breast cancer.

Eight teams bowled in the event. There was also a 50/50 raffle, door prizes a regular raffle, and merchandise sold with all proceeds going to the Susan B Komen Breast Cancer Research.

Leading off the bowlers was Marengo resident, Myrtle Fee, a breast cancer survivor, who rolled the first ball for a nine pin count. Fee underwent double mastectomy surgery in 1996 and after being treated for a year, has been cancer free. She and her husband, David, have four children.

Raffled were a Kroger gift card a BP gift card and a gift card from Suzee-Q’s Cardington. There was also a 50/50 raffle

Others making donations to the event were Dawn Fleming whose fleece throw was raffled; NAPA, Joe’s Tru Value, Briar Patch, Domino’s Pizza, Auto Zone, Purple Indian Pizza, and Pizza Hut, Mount Gilead; Cardington Home and Auto and Pirate’s Cove, Cardington and Korner Klippers, Edison. Also donating were Leah Monk and Eldonna McKinnis, the latter serving as co-ordinator of the event.

This event is held every February, which is declared by the US Bowling Congress as Bowl for the Cure Month with a goal of Bowl to a Million.

McKinnis thanked all you contributed to this year’s event and gave a special thanks to the Popps for hosting it.
