With another snow on Sunday, many people made use of the sledding hill at the Mount Gilead State Park. The evergreen trees with snow on them and a bright red cardinal flying through make the park a beautiful place to visit.

The birds are constantly emptying the feeders at the bird station, but the usual numbers of birds have not been seen this year. We will be making a count on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week for the Great Back Yard Bird Count and a tally sheet will be available in the blind. The instructions are easy to follow and we welcome anyone who would like to add observations to our list.

A dead gold finch was found under the feeders, reminding us that birds need a lot of high energy food to maintain their higher body temperatures. If they are depending on your feeders, it is important to keep food available.

Last week a variety of tracks were easy to follow all around the feeder site and on Thursday I noticed that a sensible deer had stepped exactly into my prints from the day before from the parking lot to the bird blind. Go the easy way whenever you can!.

The Volunteers in Parks meeting was postponed because of the weather and will be rescheduled soon.
