Rick Jones, a retired teacher who has interviewed and written about many US service veterans, will be the speaker when Cardington holds its annual Memorial Day program at Glendale Cemetery.

The event will begin with a parade that will organize at 12:45 p.m. at the post home on Park Avenue. It will be led by the Cardington-Lincoln High School marching band directed by John Brehm, color guards from Post 97, Unit 97 and Squadron 97.

The parade will step off at 1 p.m. and pause at the Veterans Park, corner of West Main and ParkAvenue where the Rifle Squad will pay tribute to three veterans, members of Post 97, who passed away during the past 12 months:

Harvey Smith, Vince Strine and Jim Ullom.

The parade will resume its route east on East Main Street and each unit will be described from a speaker’s stand just east of the square.

The program at the cemetery will include the Gettysburg Address delivered by Sara Waters, a junior at Cardington-Lincoln High School and Emily Waters, a senior at Wilmington College will give Logan’s Orders.

Jim Crawford, a member of Post 97, will describe the POW Remembrance table. The flag will be raised by members of Squadron 97 of the Sons of the America Legion.

Special music will be performed by the C-LHS band.

The Post Rifle squad will give the 21 gun salute. The program will be emceed by Jeff Sellars, Post 97 commander.

Giving the opening prayer will Jerry Ruth, Post 97 chaplain and Esther Cellan, Unit 97 chaplain, will offer the closing prayer.
