Mount Gilead State Park received several new updates this spring as park of a $1.6 million revitalization project.

The project reflects Governor John Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly’s allocation of $88.5 million in the state budget for State Park updates.

The updates, described by Ohio Department of Natural Resources Public Information Officer Brooke Betit as “the first round of State Park improvements” include additions to campsites, showerhouses, and the pavilion as well as installation of new playground equipment.

The schedule for the updates is weather dependent, says Betit, but many of the projects are already well underway.

The pavilion project has already been completed and will soon be followed by the playground, which is expected to be finished late this spring. Updates to the campground can be expected later in the summer, including showerhouse improvements and full hookup campsites.

Additional funding is anticipated for a project to improve the park’s dams with an expected completion date of winter 2017.
