Morrow County celebrates ‘National Day of Prayer’

Morrow County residents gathered in churches around the county last Thursday to participate in the nation’s 65th annual National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer Task Force reported that President Barack Obama proclaimed May 5 as National Day of Prayer as every President has done since 1952.

Morrow County Officials and Court House staff met at Trinity United Methodist Church at noon on May 5 to be part of the National “Wake up America” program. The group joined in reading a prayer by Dr. Tony Evans that was read simultaneously by groups gathered throughout the country at noon.

Jim Brucker opened the program with a prayer of repentance and Mount Gilead High School Student; Micah James led the group in singing “Amazing Grace.”

Eight points of prayer included prayers and comments from individuals. The government prayer was given by Commissioner, Tom Whiston.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University professor, Mark Shoaf gave the prayer for the military. Rosemary Levings spoke for the media. Prayer for business was given by Kelly Hand.

Dawn Reed from the Recorder’s office gave a heartfelt prayer and declaration of the importance of God in education and the value of good teachers. Tammy Ghent prayed for churches and unity among churches.

Vickie Thomas prayed for families and Morrow County Sheriff, Steve Brenneman noted that every prayer from government to families affects Morrow County and its people.

Auditor, Pat Davies concluded the program with a circle of prayer. She asked participants to observe the light coming through the stained glass windows and prayed that Morrow County can be a light for the world.

The Morrow County Ministerial Association organized the program with the leadership of Robin Stuttler and Jim Brucker.
