Jon Mason, Cardington-Lincoln School District Treasurer, told members of the Cardington-Lincoln Board of Education March was slightly better for district finances.
“The real estate collection came in at $1.2 million and went into the general fund – it’s healthy again,” he said speaking during the board’s regular April meeting. “But we’re still in the $300,000 to $400,000 deficit range. There’s still work to be done – all bills are being paid but there’s still three more months that will drain on that balance.”
He told the board he had met with Pat Willard who is with Ohio Department of Education to review the fiscal recovery plan.
Cardington-Lincoln Superintendent Brian Petrie gave a report on the College Credit Plus Year 1 summary explaining the process which begins in the spring before the next school year and “the parents give us an intent to participate in the program by April 1.” Students in grades 7-12 are eligible if they are determined they are college interested, he stated.
The board heard reports from grades 7-12 principal Joe Mills, who noted the school’s FFA Chapter is rated as one of the top-10 in the state and said the annual prom will be held on April 22.
Scott Hardwick, Student Services, said alternate assessments data for special needs students have been updated and squared away. The Jon Peterson Scholarship items have been progressing as he is meeting with the Special Ed director with Gilead Christian regarding the applications for these scholarships.
Petrie stated the school district will replace a plaque that was placed at the base of a tree planted several years ago to honor the memory of long time principal and teacher, (1947-1971) the late Wilbur McAlister. The plaque was lost and his family provided a new one.
The board held two executive sessions during this meeting. The first was related to an expulsion. Following the 60 minute session the board reconvened and agreed to “uphold the expulsion through the end of the school year.”
The second session was based on ORC 121.22(G) 26. There was no further action following the board’s re entry into regular session. The board will meet for its regular meeting on May 8 and again on May 24 to interview scholarship applicants.
