Amish bagels are the most popular sandwich on the menu at the Breakfast Nook in Marengo at 7 W. Walnut Street.

Breakfast Nook owner, Jan Harman said that her selection of 8 Sisters donuts, cream sticks, fritters and other pastries are also favorites.

“Drive-thru breakfasts to-go is the slogan for our shop,” said Harman.

She opened the breakfast and coffee shop after Jan. 1 this year in the Rolling Dough Pizzeria in Marengo. She worked in a couple of restaurants in the area before deciding to open her own business this year.

Customers can drive up to the window and order from a list of breakfast sandwiches and donuts. Sandwich choices include eggs, three meats, cheese and wheat or white bread, Amish bagels or English muffins. There is also a choice of coffee, tea, juice, milk and other beverages.

While customers are welcome to drive up to the window to place their order, Harman encourages everyone to call ahead to order for quicker service. She also varies the choices for 8 Sisters pastries she has each week, so it’s good to call ahead to find out what is available.

8 Sisters orders for cakes, donuts and other pastries can be placed at the Breakfast Nook and also picked up there. Harman said that is a big convenience for people in the southern part of the county, so they don’t have to drive the 12 miles up to Mount Gilead.

Harman is also working with Emma Lister of 8 Sisters to try some new possibilities for breads and pastries.

Visa and Master Card are accepted at Breakfast Nook with a $5 minimum purchase. The call in number is 419-253-3006. Hours for the shop are Tues. – Sat. 5:30 – 11 a.m.
