Ashland University will host an event titled “Officers Speak Out on Police Brutality” on April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium on the AU campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature the Ashland City Police Chief and two Ashland Police Department officers as well as two troopers from the Ashland Highway Patrol.

The event is sponsored by the AU organization, Brothers in Action, and the Office of Institutional Diversity on the AU campus.

The term “Police Brutality” is defined as excessive force on an individual. Recently, this has been a topic in the news in our society, which is keeping law enforcement officers from carrying out their duties efficiently and effectively. This event will feature local law enforcement officers giving a presentation from their point of view on this issue and it is hoped that this enlightening discussion will aid in healing the divide because law enforcement and the general population.
