In honor of the national movement, the Morrow County Commissioners have declared April, ‘Sexual Assault Awareness Month’ to draw attention to widespread sexual violence that impacts every community member in the county.

The commissioners, along with the Morrow County Prosecutor’s Office, the Sexual Assault Response Team and Helpline of Morrow and Delaware Counties, Morrow County Victime Witness, Cardington Police Department, Marion General Hospital SANE, Turning Point, Morrow County Children Services, The Tomorrow Center, Morrow County Hospial, Morrow County Social Services and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office have partnered in an effort to raise sexual crime awareness, calling the group the Sexaul Assault Response Team.

“We see more two to three year olds than any other age group,” Marion General Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Darlene Schoonard said. “We saw 110 (total) cases last year.”

The group has worked for years addressing rape and sexual assault by supporting victims and their families, providing prevention programs in schools, and educating adults about what they can do to protect children.
