Damp weather and cloudy skies did not deter visitors to the Lutheran Memorial Camp’s annual Maple Syrup Festival held on March 13.
Four hundred dinners were served and those combined with the sale of maple goodies will provide at least eight camperships to the camp this summer.
Pat Surbella, office manager, said this year all the baked goods for sale contained maple syrup distilled at the camp. Especially delicious was the ‘Maple Apple Butter.’
There were 64 volunteers, including Cub Scout Troop #95, Cardington and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Westerville, who helped. The LMC Staff also thanks St. John Lutheran Church, Windfall, for their donation of pancake batter and the Avalon Nine for their musical entertainment.
Erlsten Brothers, Mt Gilead, provided fresh maple syrup products, Mike Ford dug fresh Sassafras for the fire brewed tea and Candyman Jack Hudson gave his usual support. Thanks to all of these contributors and to the community for their loyalty. These contributions help the Campership program and its goal of giving youngsters the camping experience.
Rod Pearce is the camp’s director.
