Crawford County’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate increased slightly year over year in December, while the 2015 rate dropped.

The unemployment rate was 5.8 percent – up from 5.3 percent reported in December 2014, according to data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The number of employed dropped from 18,600 in December 2014 to 18,200; the number of unemployed increased from 1,000 to 1,100; and the civilian labor force, or the sum of those employed and unemployed, dropped from 19,600 to 19,300.

But the county’s average unemployment rate for 2015 dropped from 6.5 percent in 2014 to 5.7 percent. Employment dropped from 18,600 to 18,200 in 2015, but unemployment dropped from 1,300 to 1,100. The civilian labor force also declined from 19,900 to 19,300.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Ohio was 4.7 percent in December 2015 compared with 5.1 percent in December 2014. The state’s average jobless rate for 2015 was 4.9 percent compared with 5.7 percent in 2014.

The U.S. jobless rate was 5 percent last month, down from 5.6 percent in December 2014. The average unemployment rate for the nation dropped from 6.2 percent in 2014 to 5.3 percent last year.

Nearby counties also experienced similar patterns with their non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate.

In Richland County, unemployment was 5.6 percent in December compared with 5.5 percent in December 2014. Richland’s jobless rate for the whole year in 2015 was 4.8 percent compared with 6.4 percent in 2014.

The unemployment rate in Morrow County was 5.1 percent last month compared with 4.9 percent in December 2014. Morrow’s jobless rate in 2015 was 4.8 percent compared with 5.8 percent in 2014.

The unemployment rate in Knox County was 4.9 percent in December 2015 compared with 4.3 percent for the same month in 2014. For 2015, the county’s unemployment was at 4.6 percent compared with 5.2 percent in 2014.
