Mount Gilead Baseball and Softball Commission held their 2nd annual fall baseball and softball league which ended this weekend. Last year was the first year the commission had held this league and was only able to form teams to allow for 50 children to participate due to the number of signups. This year the program doubled in size allowing over 100 children to participate. There were enough youth athletes sign up for form teams for a co ed softball coach pitch division, 13U softball division, Little League baseball division, and a Pony League baseball division.

This year they put a fun twist to the game. The last games fell on Halloween weekend, so for the coach pitch kids they were asked to dress in costume to play and for the older divisions they not only dressed in costume, but also played reverse ball. In reverse baseball/softball the player must run the bases backwards once they hit the ball meaning 3rd base is now 1st base. They also had to bat opposite hand as normal.

The fall ball program is open for any youth baseball and softball players regardless of where they live. Mount Gilead Baseball and Softball Commission would like to thank all of their volunteers, their coaches for both summer and fall league who volunteer their time, the umpires for both leagues, and for everyone who comes out to support the young athletes in our community. Without you this program would not be possible.
