Cardington-Lincoln Elementary students have been working with a new program titled Pirate Bucks and because of their positive adjustment to it they were rewarded in October with participation in a pumpkin decorating contest.
On October 2, each of the 23 classes was given a pumpkin to decorate in an innovative way. The contest wound up Friday, October 30, when the pumpkins were judged and the winner was determined to be the pumpkin decorated by students in the kindergarten class of Amy Adams Their pumpkin featured a “hands” theme.
Judging the pumpkins were Christy Roqueplot, Elementary and Intermediate Principal; Scott Hardwick, Student Services and Brian Petrie, District Superintendent.
The contest was a reward for the students who had been working with a new program titled “Pirate Bucks” which they earned for promoted behaviors and actions. With each Pirate Buck earned and saved, the students can “cash” them all in for an allowed reward. For example, Twenty Pirate
Bucks will earn them the chance to assist a teacher of their choice for ten minutes of class time – with more Pirate Bucks saved, the larger the reward. The Program is titled “Respectful, Responsible and Ready.”
There were 40 pumpkins entered in the contest, 23 decorated by the elementary school classes and 17 by staff members. The pumpkins were arranged in a setting on the front lawn of the school for viewing by the Trick or Treat visitors on Saturday evening
