Deadline for Nominations for Mt. Gilead’s annual Dr. Nathan Tucker Award of Excellence was extended to June 12, 2015 at the Mount Gilead Village Council when they met in regular session on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the village municipal building.

This original deadline for the Tucker Award was May 18 but has been extended due to no nominations yet received at the village office. Please turn nominations in to the village office at 72 W. High Street, Mt. Gilead.

Police Chief Brian Zerman reported 207 calls for the month of May. The dept. took 31 reports, responded to 8 accidents, and issued 91 charges.

Fire department Chief Greg Young reported that since May 1, the dept. has had 37 calls, 11 calls to assist other departments, 6 EMS assists, 6 accidents, 1 controlled burn, 1 brush fire, 1 fuel leak on the freeway, 3 illegal burns, 5 calls for power lines down, 1 structure fire and 2 alarm malfunctions.

Village administrator Dan Rogers reported the village fixed a water leak on Center Street the same day it was found. Letters were sent out to residents who have not yet mowed their lawn since spring started and most have addressed the mowing issue.

In other business council adopted ordinance 1720 sanitary sewer rate increase, council passed on to the third reading ordinance 1721 “Good Neighbor Standards” and council adopted ordinance 1723 supplemental appropriations.

The next regular Mount Gilead Village Council meeting was moved to June 22nd at 7 pm. The Village budget hearing will be held on the 15th at the village municipal building.
