The Morrow County probation department received “mace training” at the Cherry Street School building on Monday August 17.

Sgt. Tom Cronenwett of the Mt. Gilead police department donated his time and talents to provide the free training.

The participants were “maced” and then were required to complete a variety of tasks before they were allowed to decontaminate.

They first had to strike a bag five times with their hands and then four times with a knee followed by “taking down a suspect” and finally handcuffing another ‘suspect’.

Cronenwett explained that the point of the training is so that they can train to fight through the mace and be functional and continue to carry out their duties securing a suspect.

Cronenwett donates his time to train various other agencies and departments as well stating that it saves the departments and the taxpayers money.
