STATE MEETINGS PLANNED – The Ohio Civil Rights Commission will hold a special meeting 10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at Rhodes State Office Tower, 5th Floor Conference Room, 30 East Broad Street, Columbus.
The Administrative Section of the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Division of Industrial Compliance, 6606 Tussing Road, OCILB Conference Room, Reynoldsburg.
OCILB issues licenses to qualified electrical, Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, hydronics and refrigeration contractors who successfully pass a licensing examination. The Board sections review applicants before they are approved to take the test for a particular trade. The Board sections also issue disciplinary actions as well as review late renewals and continuing education courses.
The Ohio Real Estate Appraiser Board will meet at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing, 77 South High Street, 22nd Floor, Columbus.
The Ohio Real Estate Appraiser Board oversees the operation of Ohio’s real estate appraiser registration, licensure and certification program. If a registered, licensed or certified appraiser is found to have violated appraiser law, the Board can revoke or suspend a registration, license or certification, assess a fine or order additional continuing education.
NATIONWIDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL’S CENTER FOR HEALTHY WEIGHT AND NUTRITION ACHIEVES NATIONAL ACCREDITATION – Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition recently achieved Adolescent Center accreditation by the joint American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). This nationally accredited certification acknowledges Nationwide Children’s commitment to providing and supporting quality improvement and patient safety efforts for severely obese adolescent patients undergoing metabolic and bariatric surgery. Nationwide Children’s is the first free-standing adolescent center in the country to achieve this important certification.
The MBSAQIP Standards, outlined in the Resources for Optimal Care of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2014 (www.facs.org/quality-programs/mbsaqip/standards) ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive care at institutions that demonstrate significant commitment to providing a safe environment for the treatment of the obese population, including the use of a multidisciplinary care model designed to improve patient outcomes and long-term success following bariatric surgery.

“LACE UP” IN GOLD SHOE LACES TO SUPPORT LOCAL KIDS WITH CANCER – Athletes throughout Northeast Ohio are getting ready to “Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer” in support of children, teens and young adults with cancer at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Akron Children’s is once again teaming up with Go4theGoal to urge local middle, high school, recreational league and college athletes to wear specially-designated gold shoe laces during September, which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The $5 laces can be easily purchased through Go4theGoal and 100 percent of the proceeds support the Showers Center’s patients.
“Last year’s Lace Up campaign, our first, was a huge success, raising more than $25,000, and we are looking forward to partnering again with Go4theGoal,” said Dr. Jeff Hord, director of the Showers Center. “It was great fun to see how many athletes, parents, coaches, athletic directors and sports fans participated last year, spread the word and got creative with their Lace Up efforts.”
