MOUNT GILEAD — Veterans from three branches of the service came together Nov. 8 to lay memorial bricks at the Veterans Memorial Courtyard just east of the Morrow County Courthouse.

Bruce Fissell read an inspirational message and noted that Nove. 11, 2017 will mark the 10th year that the memorial was completed and officially opened. Bricks in honor or memory of veterans are installed twice a year in the courtyard.

Ryan Lawson and Bill Young of the Veterans Service office noted that bricks can be purchased through the Morrow County Veterans Service office in Mount Gilead. Two sizes of bricks are available. They are 4X8X2½ for $50 and 8X8X2 ½ for $100.

A total of 5,000 bricks are now in the memorial and there are more than 1,200 which are inscribed with the names of veterans.

There is a memorial brick directory at the courtyard that names each person in the courtyard by section alphabetically. Service personnel from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and POW/MIA are all honored there. Many people purchase bricks not only for themselves, but in memory of family members.

Information on the bricks may include: name, rank, branch of service, unit, and conflict, in memory of or a combination of those things.

Information to purchase a memorial brick is on the Veterans Service site at www.morrowcountyveterans.com. There is also an application on the website. You can also call the Morrow County Veterans Service office at 419-946-1914.
