MOUNT GILEAD — Morrow County Voters elected a new Municipal Court Judge Tuesday from among three candidates — Jenifer Murphy Burnaugh, Charles S. Howland and Donald K. Wick.

Burnaugh won with 3617 votes; Howland captured 2526 and Wick 1959.

Votes are unofficial until certified by the county board of elections.

Residents also defeated three countywide safety issues.

• Morrow County Sheriff sought a 1 mill, continuous levy. That levy failed by a margin of 4418 to 4131.

• EMS levy also failed, 4629 to 3905. It was a 2 mills, permanent or continuing levy. One of the important factors for needing the levy is the 33 percent increase in runs since 2006. Yet Morrow County has operated on a 2 mill renewable levy since 1972.

• The 9-1-1 issue lost as well. It received 3568 votes for and 4928 against.

It is a single amount of $25 per “improved parcel assessment” per year. Acker said that an “improved parcel” is basically any property with a building on it. The last assessment per parcel was $25. This request is an increase to $50 per parcel.

• In Bennington Township, voters had the opportunity to decide on a “Local liquor option for community facility Bennington Township Revitalization District.”

That issue passed by a vote of 532-422.

The ballot asks “shall the sale of beer and intoxicating liquor be permitted on days of the week other than Sunday and between the hours of 11 a.m. and midnight on Sunday at the Bennington Township Revitalization District, a community facility as defined by section 4301.01 of the Revised Code, and located at the St. R. 61/I-71 Corridor …..”

The committee to pass the issue points out that the liquor sales would not be permitted in the township other than a small area ½ square mile at the intersection of State Route 61 and I-71.

Final, unofficial results will be posted online when available. Pick up the Nov. 15 print edition for more coverage.
