Students earn merit scholarships at BW

BEREA, Ohio — Two area students were among more than 400 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who claimed $6.1 million in merit scholarships for their outstanding high school achievements.

The following local students were awarded merit scholarships:

Zach Baker of Marengo, a graduate of Highland High School, earned a $14,000 Trustees Scholarship.

Michael Winkelfoos of Mount Gilead, a graduate of Highland High School, earned a $14,000 Trustees Scholarship.

BW’s merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students and are renewable up to four years with good academic and social standing.

Winkelfoos crowned Homecoming Jacket Prince

BEREA, Ohio — Michael Winkelfoos of Mount Gilead was crowned Homecoming Jacket Prince during Homecoming Weekend at Baldwin Wallace University.

Festivities also included a parade, tailgate picnic, carnival, alumni reunions and a Yellow Jacket football 38-21 victory over Wilmington College.

Winkelfoos, a graduate of Highland High School, was crowned at the pep rally. He was nominated by the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
