MOUNT GILEAD — A total of almost $2,000 was generated when the annual pie and cake auction was held at the Morrow County Fair, said Kathy Eichorn, department superintendent.

The Grand Champion pie, a Triple Berry, was baked by Jeanette Kincaid and purchased for $200 by Patricia Davies, Warren Davis, and Dan Osborne.

Vickie McKinney’s apple crumb pie, judged as reserve champion, was purchased for $125 by Charles and Hollis Howland. Renee Holtsberry’s Triple Berry Cake, was purchased for $225 by Catrupi Financial represented by Marcello Cutrupi.

Charlotte Benedict’s Carrot Cake, reserve champion, generated a high bid of $175 by Don Wick. Braxton Werner’s chocolate cake, was judged the champion youth cake and was purchased for $150 by Shaw Creek Propane represented by Mike Gall. Jenifer Burnaugh purchased the reserve champion youth cake, a carrot, for $225, baked by Chase Elswick. Jeff Jordan represented Burnaugh.

Terry Elswick’s peanut butter chocolate pie took first place in the men’s baking contest.

Others purchasing cakes and pies were Gompf Funeral Service, Morrow County Pork Producers, Interior Systems, Above the Rest, Philly’s Italian Sausage, Coleman Club Lambs, Century 21, Eichorn Farms, Pearce Farms and WFR.

Eichorn said the money generated from the auction is used to support the Arts and Crafts, Clothing and Home Furnishings and domestic foods departments.

Auctioneers were Brandon Strain and Bill Creswell.
