HEATH — Ed Albertson announced his candidacy for Congress in the upcoming election in 2018.

“I am running for Congress because I believe our country can no longer afford the dysfunction in Washington that obstructs any meaningful progress on the most important problems we face. Congress is not making things better and substantial changes are needed,” he said in a news release.

Albertson announced his candidacy Sept. 4 following the Mansfield Labor Day Parade.

The seat is held by Republican Pat Tiberi. The district covers all of Licking, Delaware, and Morrow counties, and parts of Marion, Richland, Muskingum and Franklin counties.

“There is too much money in our political process and gerrymandering has eliminated meaningful and competitive political races. I will be your voice in Congress, representing you. I’ll focus on doing my job, not keeping my job.”

Albertson is a partner at Cincinnati-based Carew International, a sales training and leadership development provider. He and his late wife, Beth, have two grown children and two grandchildren.

On an ROTC scholarship and money earned from summer jobs, Ed graduated first in his class at Pennsylvania Military College and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Army. During his military service he earned a Master’s Degree in Information Systems which led to further career opportunities in civilian life in both large and small businesses.

“Ed brings a wealth of experience from the real world,” said Gene Branstool, former Ohio State Senator and Assistant Secretary of Agriculture under President Bill Clinton.

“Ed served his country in the U.S. Army and has worked in the private sector for over thirty years. Often our political leaders are too far removed from the reality that the rest of us experience in life. Ed has lived in our world, raising a family, making a living, and serving his community and the country.”
