The Williamsport Grange #1815 recently delivered Care Bags to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office.

The Care Bag represents the collective effort of the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Williamsport Grange #1815, Gleaners Insurance and American Red Cross Morrow County.

The bags contained personal hygiene items, snacks, socks and phone numbers for local service agencies. They will be distributed to those that the deputies encounter who are in need and may benefit from this gesture of caring.

Through these Care Bags, they hope to assist members of the community and to strengthen relationships with law enforcement.

The Care Bag project was brought to the Grange membership by President Lisa Tharp. She was inspired by the effort of Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Trooper Logan Kirkendall with the Toledo Post.

Kirkendall had the idea of making assist bags, filled items those less fortunate might need, and having law enforcement carry them in their cars to give to people they meet.

The Grange members were excited about the project and spent many weeks collecting items. Their July meeting was spent assembling them.

President Lisa Tharp and member Donna Carver delivered the bags to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office. Accepting on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office is Sgt. Brian Newsome, K-9 handler.

The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office K-9 program will benefit from another upcoming project of the Williamsport Grange. For the past two years the Williamsport Grange has hosted a Celebrity Chef Omelette Breakfast to assist the Historical Society with the purchase of two furnaces.

With that goal accomplished, the Grange is reaching out with their signature fundraiser to assist other local organizations. This year the Grange has selected the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office K9 program.

The Williamsport Grange Celebrity Chef Omelette Breakfast will be held at Senior’s On Center, Saturday Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It will support the K9 program.
