Speaking to members of Jenkins-Vaughan Auxiliary Unit 97, Cardington, during the May meeting were Alicia McElwee and Kaeli Tracht, who are Buckeye Girls State delegates sponsored by the unit.

Angela Curren and Vicki Kerman spoke to unit members on the Cardington-Lincoln Education Foundation and its purpose to purchase items in bulk with donations to make the school supplies more affordable and items the teacher’s request.

Shirley Dendinger shared a photo of the wreath she had made for the students to take to Washington D C where they were to lay it at a monument. Two boys and two girls will lay the wreath.

Betty Cook reported membership at 71 percent with eleven more to send to Department.

Linda Gordon has placed canisters for donations in Cardington businesses and collected donations but will leave them there until the last of the month. She has volunteers for most of the locations in Cardington and Mount Gilead.

Under Community Service, Clara McClenathan said the Festival Committee needs six to ten card tables for their euchre tournament to be held June 24 from noon to 3:30 pm. The tables are to be brought to the Legion Hall on Friday evening for set up.

Discussion also focused on the ice cream social to be held during the Cardington Festival with final plans to be made during a special meeting on June 6 at 7 pm.

The unit received a first place award from the District 6 in Group 3 for Children and Youth and Community Service. Under New Business, all officers were willing to keep their offices for the 2017-2018 year. Chaplain Esther Cellan conducted a service for deceased member Laura Conant.

Belva Fissell’s name was drawn during the Dime March and she was not present.
