07/13/2015 Preliminary report: One person was injured when the vehicle he was a passenger in was forced to go off road to avoid a head-on collision shortly before 5 pm Monday evening.

Witnesses at the scene reported that a white Jeep was traveling southbound in the 6300 block of State Route 61 near Twp. Road 75 when it attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing area.

A Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound had to swerve sharply to the right to avoid a head on collision. The driver of the Malibu was able to maneuver the vehicle to avoid striking the guardrail and missed a telephone pole. The vehicle came to rest when it struck a wire fence line.

The driver of the Malibu was uninjured. The passenger was transported to MCH with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses say the white Jeep veered off to the left and may have struck a wooden fence. They reported the driver of the Jeep stopped, looked for possible damage to his vehicle, and then took off.

Witnesses were able to provide police with a partial license plate. The Jeep may have suffered damage to the left front area of the vehicle. Witnesses report that Mt. Gilead Village police were searching for the driver as he headed towards the village following the accident.

Responding to the scene were Morrow County EMS and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident is under investigation by Post 59 of the OSHP.
