On March 20, the Morrow County Republicans held their annual Lincoln Day Dinner at Highland High School.

Cindy Leo of Somerlot Catering served a delicious meal to guests at the event. Loren Altizer served as the master of ceremonies.

Chairman Dan Osborne introduced the Secretary of State Jon Husted, who spoke about how his office has saved Ohio taxpayers $14.5 million, reduced staff by 25 percent and requested a cut in the state budget.

Secretary Husted also shared a story about his upbringing and how hard work and love for family is important.

Sophia Thompson, a junior at Highland High School read President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address to the audience with moving poise and conviction.

Altizer presented Thompson with a gift for her efforts. Osborne also presented representatives of the Morrow County Historical Society with a plaque of political buttons form the 2016 presidential campaign.

Resident o the Morrow County Republican Women Pat Davies invited everyone to the 2017 membership drive on April 9 at McCehesney’s Ice Cream Parlor from 3-5 p.m. Davies conducted the women’s gift basket raffle. One basket was donated to the Morrow County Food Pantry.

The group would like to extend a special thanks to Highland Local School District staff and students.
