“Let your heart be light” is the theme for the second annual Christmas celebration in Mount Gilead this Friday, Dec. 2. Stores will be open to celebrate Winterfest from 6-9 p.m. The parade will be rolling through town on Main Street at 7 p.m. There will be live Nativity scenes, carolers and crafts for kids at the Community Center by Howard Hannah’s.

Mount Gilead merchants and Chamber of Commerce members are gearing up for visitors with decorations, Christmas specials, and plans for a Scavenger Hunt. Merchants are sponsoring a Scavenger Hunt with 25 gifts to be found at participating businesses in downtown Mount Gilead.

Santa’s helpers will be hanging out in front of Mike Grahams Insurance on the village square from 5-9 p.m. with live reindeer. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn and hot cocoa downtown.

The Capitol Theatre is showing free short Christmas movies at 5:30, 6 and 6:30 p.m. and the History Center across the street will be open all evening.

The Morrow County Clothes Closet will be collecting new or gently used coats, mittens, gloves, scarves and warm clothes for children at Domino’s Pizza on Main Street during Winterfest.

The Morrow County Chamber of Commerce event chairman, Le Anne Gompf invites families to “come and ‘let your heart be light’ in the spirit of Christmas. Browse the shops, enjoy a Christmas movie, watch the parade and have lots of fun in downtown Mount Gilead.”
