One dead in Saturday crash near Marion

MARION – Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash on Saturday evening about 6 p.m.The crash occurred on Ohio 309 near Holland Road in Marion Township.

Vernon Mount, 53, of LaRue, was taken from the scene to Marion General Hospital by Marion Township EMS where he was pronounced dead by deputy coroner Mark Davis.

According to troopers, a 1995 Chevy S10 operated by Mount was westbound on Ohio 309 east of Holland Road. The vehicle drove left of center and off the left side of the road. Mount overcorrected, driving off the right side of the road and then overcorrected again before the vehicle overturned and came to a rest on Ohio309.

Mount was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
