Marion, Ohio — The first students of the new Truck Driving Academy started classes at the Marion Industrial Center this month. Marion Technical College, Southern State Community College (SSCC) and Ted Graham partnered together to meet this local training need. Anyone interested in this career is invited to an Open House on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marion Industrial Center, Entrance D, Door 312.
“An investment in four weeks of hands-on training can enter a growing field paying an average of $40,000 a year,” said Tami Galloway with MTC’s Center for Workforce Development.
According to CareerCoach, openings for tractor-trailer drivers is expected to rise by 12% over the next decade. Ohio Means Jobs – Marion County states there are more than 100 job openings in Marion.
Southern State instructors are teaching the classes including real world, on-the-road instruction. New classes start each month. Completion of the program qualifies students to take the test for a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Prior to this academy opening, students had to drive to Columbus for training. MTC Works! and SSCC offers lifetime job placement assistance to all of its Truck Driving Academy graduates.
