Mount Gilead Exempted Schools will look to continue to improve the district’s infrastructure in the near future.

A proposed inside millage transfer of 2 mills was officially approved by Board of Education members at this month’s meeting.

“This money cannot go to salaries,” Mount Gilead Superintendent Jeff Thompson said previously. “It has to go to permanent or capital improvements.”

According to Ohio Revised Code, permanent improvements are defined as, “any property, asset, or improvement with an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more, including land and interests therein, and reconstructions, enlargements, and extensions thereof having an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more.”

The district can use the funding for the, “acquisition, replacement, enhancement, maintenance or repair of permanent improvements as those terms are defined in this rule.”

Additionally, the board approved the ballot language for the upcoming Mount Gilead Public Library operational levy.

The approved measure defines the possible assessed tax rate for residents of the district, should voters approve the levy in November.

According to the passed measure, the levy proposes an additional 1 mill tax rate that translates to 10 cents per $100 of assessed property value.

It would be collected over a five-year period beginning in 2017.
