Morrow County Relay for Life, 2016, will run Friday, July 22 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on July 23 at Gilead Friends Church.
This year’s run will honor cancer survivors and raise money for The American Cancer Society with a “Paint Your World Purple” theme.
Teams of family, friends and co-workers will walk around the track and participate in events that include team games, fun laps and a silent auction.
Welcomed back for the second consecutive year is “Shop for a Cure” with local vendors participating by donating a percentage of their sales back to the Relay event.
All cancer survivors will receive a free purple survivor Relay for Life T-Shirt and are welcome to attend the reception time for the survivors and one care giver beginning at 5 p.m.
The opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m., followed by the opening lap taken by the cancer survivors. The Survivor and Caregiver Dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the reception hall of Gilead Friends Church. If you did not receive an invitation, please contact Rosemary Levings at 419-560-1273.
Purple is the symbol of hope and courage for cancer survivors. The entire community is invited to participate in the war to end cancer .
The highlight of Relay for Life, the luminary service, begins at 10 p.m. This service is an important piece of what the organization does. It is a time for reflection and remembrance. Lights in white bags will circle the track as participants walk silent laps in memory of all those who have been lost to cancer.
The first Relay for Life event was carried out by Dr. Gordon Klatt, a surgeon in Tacoma, Washington.
All Morrow County community members are invited to Gilead Friends Church to support the teams, participate in activities and help in the fight against cancer while “we paint our world purple.”
