The Cardington Police Department added a part-time officer, as Joshua Rivers was given the oath of office as part time police officer when Cardington Village Council met June 20.

Mayor Susie Peyton administered the oath to Rivers, a Marion area native who is a recent graduate of the Marion Tech Police Academy program.

Council gave their approval to a resolution authorizing the police chief and the fiscal officer to enter into a contract with Lexipol, LLC, for police Department Assistance Materials.

Police Chief James Wallace explained that state has imposed new training requirements for police officers and after researching available law enforcement agencies, the department determined that Lexipol, LLC was found to be in good standing.

Wallace believes Lexipol is qualified to provide the necessary materials and services required by the village to ensure continued compliance for its police department.

The one-year contract will cost the village $2,178.00.
