Mount Gilead Kiwanis awards area students with scholarships

The Mount Gilead Kiwanis has announced five area high school recipients of the 2016 edition of its annual scholarships.

The honorees will be awarded $500 each after proof of completion of their first semester in college. The 2016 awards have been presented to Ben Hayes graduate of Mount Gilead High School; Lydia Morgan graduate Highland High School; Michelle Brown, Spencer Adams and Mikayla Briggs all graduates Northmor High School.

Applications were accepted from Morrow County resident high school seniors who plan to pursue educational goals after high school.

Applicants submitted: two letters of recommendation; a high school transcript; an essay sharing how the student’s volunteering has impacted other people’s lives – in particular the lives of children; and a two-page application detailing career goals, financial need, school involvement and community service.
