Mount Gilead Mayor Donna Carver presented the Nathan Tucker Award to Ruth Logan and Robin Brucker at the Aug. 21 meeting of the Village Council. The Tucker Award is given to individuals who care about people and strive to make Mount Gilead a better place to live through volunteer, professional, and business activities and projects.

A slow start offensively placed the Mount Gilead football team in a 12-0 hole at the half — a deficit they would be unable to overcome in falling to the Rams by a 26-12 margin to fall to 1-1 on the season.

Hinkle’s opens new addition
Hinkle’s Marengo Hardware is overflowing with new products and customer favorites in the new paint store addition. Owner Wayne Hinkle said the business was finally able to move the paints and painting supplies from the building across the street to the new addition in July.
MG’s Elson to run for Ashland
After a successful track and field career at Mount Gilead High School that saw her run in sprint relay in the state meet both on the state runner-up 2021 girls’ team as a sophomore and also as a junior in 2022, Madilyn Elson will move on to collegiate athletics in that sport at Ashland University.
Kennon off to Defiance
After a senior year at Mount Gilead that saw him recover from injury during the fall in order to be able to compete during the winter and spring, Carter Kennon will move on to Defiance College where he will play baseball for the Division III university.
