Woman injured in Monday car/pedestrian accident

A woman was injured in Mt. Gilead in a mishap with traffic June 30, 2014.

According to an eyewitness account, two female pedestrians were standing in the area between Landmark and AutoZone about 2:55 pm, waiting to cross the street, when one of the ladies stepped into traffic.

A PT Cruiser traveling east stopped to allow the woman to cross, however, the woman stopped in the roadway. The vehicle then attempted to go around the woman when she then stepped directly in front of the vehicle.

The witness stated that though the vehicle ran over the woman, she got right back up and walked to the side of the road, then sat on the curb.

The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately to render assistance.

The eyewitness called 911 for emergency personnel. Morrow County EMS and Mount Gilead Police responded.

The accident is under investigation by the Mount Gilead Police Department.
