Art Beyond Borders murals, a project of the non-profit organization TIMOTCA, (The International Musuem of Twenty First Century Art), was brought to the Mount Gilead Park Avenue Elementary School by the school’s PTO for the week of March 17-22.
Students viewed, critiqued and conducted art projects that were inspired by those murals.
This exhibit was one that was born of a dream to create a collection of art that includes an artist from every country in the world, to an effort to go beyond the borders and foster peace through understanding and communication. To date, 63 countries have agreed to participate.
The exhibit was a display of 24 pieces in an exciting, vibrant and eye-opening collection of art that celebrates culture and diversity and above all, humanity’s deep desire to create art. Art really is an universal language.
The students in the kindergarten class of Jennifer Williams, wrote incisive and thoughtful critiques about the art pieces. These critiques were displayed with the selected pieces. The students chose their favorite art piece, described it and wrote the reasons for their selection.
Students writing their critiques were Cole Fricke, Lane Robinson, Kayor Howard, Rylie Baker, Shaylynn Irwin, A’Lesha James, Cohen Evans, Caden Baughman, Wyatt Young, Zachary Moodispaugh, Porter Beck, Devon Hubbard, Madalynn Shonk, Baylee Snyder, Natalia Neal, Gage Baker, Riley Thomas, Lillian Chafin, Aryanna Baldwin, Katie Oliver, Abram Newson, Izak Smith, Alexis Rice, Sam Wallis and Peyton Clark.
