St. John Lutheran to hold Peace 5K Run in April

An invitation is extended to the public to participate in the second annual Pass the Peace 5K at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 19, 2014 beginning at 10 am.

The Kids Fun Run will step off at 11 am.

The event offers T-shirt and ticket for door prizes. Awards will be presented tothe top two overall male and female finishers. The top two males and females in each age croup will also receive awards. Those age groups include: 14 and under; 15-24; 25-34, 35-44, 45-54 and 55 and over.

There is a $25 registration fee for those running the 5-Kilometer course, The entry fee is non-refundable with all proceeds benefitting the St. John Lutheran Church Youth Group.

The 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) course will begin near and finish at the church, located at 5070 Newmans Cardington Road. The course is flat and fast as it takes the participant on a run through the Marion County countryside.

Registration for the one half mile Youth Fun Run is $10 and includes a t-shirt.

Race Day registration and check-in for online registration will be at the shelter house on the west side of St. John Lutheran Church. Registration tables will open at 8:30 am. There is ample parking available at the church.

Following the 5K runs, there will be a Spring Fling when a spaghetti lunch will be served from 11 am to 12:30 pm for a free will donation. There will be many activities such as games, face painting, cookie decorating, a science station and many more. The highlight will be an Easter Egg hunt at 12:45 pm for children ten and under.

Proceeds from these events benefit the church’s youth group whose priority is to help in the Mission Field. In 2013, a group of ten youths traveled to Washington DC to work with the homeless. There are 15 youths in this group ranging in ages from middle to high school.
